Roll of Honour

Ann Rowbotham
It is due to a generous bequest from resident, Ann Rowbotham, that Cartmel Village Society is able to preserve and celebrate the heritage of the village today. Born on 13th May 1916, Ann was the only child of Basil, a bank manager in Southport, and Margaret H. (nee Wrench), and lived at Laburnum Cottage, Barn Garth in Cartmel. Ann never married and spent most of her working life as PA at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Center for Technology, Policy and Industrial Development). After her retirement, she was honoured by MIT in 1999. She retired back to the Cartmel area and lived in Charney Road, Grange-over-Sands where she looked after her mother and worked part-time at Holker and the Netherwood Hotel. Ann died aged 67 on the 2nd of December 2008 and is buried in Cartmel cemetery in the same plot as her parents. Ann also left bequests to Cartmel Priory and the National Trust. Cartmel Village Society gives Ann our heartfelt thanks for her legacy.
